About CoE-HT

The Centre of Excellence for Handloom Technology (CoE-HT) is a dedicated initiative to support and strengthen India's handloom sector through innovation, technology and skill development. It brings together traditional weaving knowledge with modern technologies to help weavers, designers, startups, researchers and industry partners work together.

CoE-HT focuses on developing practical solutions for the handloom sector through research, product innovation, training, incubation and knowledge sharing. It also works towards improving productivity, promoting sustainable practices and encouraging entrepreneurship to make the sector future-ready.

Why CoE-HT?

India's handloom industry is one of the country's oldest and most valuable traditional sectors. It supports more than 3.5 million weavers and allied workers, with women representing nearly 70% of the workforce.

Despite its rich heritage, the sector continues to face challenges including limited access to technology, design innovation, skill development, sustainable production methods and global markets.

Our Purpose

CoE-HT bridges the gap between academia, industry, government and artisans by driving research, innovation, technology adoption and entrepreneurship to create a globally competitive and sustainable handloom ecosystem.
